Amethyst

Amethyst is a powerful and protective stone. Sage

Burning sage, also known as smudging, involves burning sage leaves and letting the smoke purify the air in your home. The purpose of burning sage differs slightly from the reasons for taking it internally.

Poor air quality may be linked to various health conditions. In this way, burning sage is seen as a cost-effective way to help purify the air. This is because sage is thought to have antimicrobial properties that help kill bacteria, viruses, and fungi.

Keep in mind that burning sage creates smoke, which can cause health problems for individuals who are prone to asthma and other respiratory conditions.

Pink Himalayan Salt

Himalayan Salt (also called Tibetan salt) is a fossilized sea salt that formed from marine deposits over 250 million years ago. In its most prized form, this salt is hand-mined and unrefined, and still contains some remnants of ancient sea life. This pink salt is mostly sold on the gourmet and health food markets, valued for the trace minerals that give it that rosy color. Most of the pink salt we see comes from the Himalayan foothills in Pakistan. Himalayan salt has a tradition of metaphysical use as well, though it’s all either very general or recent. All salts are used in purification, and many people like to use the Himalayan kind as a bath salt or massage stone.

Salts are protective, too, with different types varying in their “specialty.” Himalayan pink salt is especially suitable for protecting the home and family. Beyond these basic properties, though, there’s little tradition of using this salt in its region of origin. In Tibet and India, it is black salt that has a long tradition in medicine, as everything from an ingredient in healing yak butter tea to a component of Ayurvedic medicine.

Frankincense

Frankincense essential oil is virtually synonymous with incense in both ancient and contemporary contexts and is used primarily to purify and sanctify spaces. Frankincense is an important archetypal soul scent of the Western sun-gods of the Sumerians, Babylonians, Persians, Egyptians, Hebrews and Greeks, and right up to modern Judaic and Christian societies. Frankincense operates by inducing focused contemplation, which is necessary for aspiration to the divine, to the spirit. The scent of this resin encourages spiritual travelers to drop out of their minds and egoistic limitations and move into presence with their spirit or center of consciousness. Using this holy, ancient oil promotes feelings of satisfaction, peace and deep, internal relaxation. As a cosmetic, frankincense oil will calm topical irritation, tighten and firm sagging skin, all while minimizing the appearance of scars, dark marks and age spots.

Myrrh

Myrrh is one of the sacred incenses of the Bible. It is mentioned several times in the Old and New Testaments. Myrrh represents Christ’s suffering—the gift of Myrrh by the Magi presages his death and entombment. The evangelist Mark says that Christ was offered wine mixed with Myrrh prior to the crucifixion. Myrrh (mixed with Frankincense) is still used in the church incenses of many Christian denominations.

Myrrh is sacred to the Great Mother, whether she is called Mary, Isis, or Binah. (The names “Mary” and “Myrrh” both probably derive from the Hebrew word for “bitter.”) It is an herb of the ancient Goddess, especially in her aspect as She Who Mourns and who hears the cries of the mourning.

As an incense and anointing oil, Myrrh can lead to rich and rewarding meditation (especially introspection). It is used to heal personal sorrow and to connect with the dead and the Underworld. Myrrh is rarely used alone. Its character is somewhat malleable depending on what it’s blended with.
